Motors & Drive Systems

EMC and mechanical load testing for traction motors, actuators and drive electronics — conducted emission, bulk current injection, mechanical shock and durability cycles.

A motor and drive system comprises the motor itself, the driver, the controller and the harness. It is an electromechanical assembly whose failure modes are partly purely electrical and partly mechanical-thermal coupled.

Typical products

  • Window lift motor
  • Seat adjustment motor
  • Wiper motor
  • Power tailgate motor
  • EPS electric power steering
  • Electric water pump
  • Turbocharger actuator

Test scope by category

  • Electrical and EMC: load dump, overvoltage, reverse polarity, radiated emission, immunity, ESD.
  • Mechanical and motion: vibration, shock, locked rotor, abnormal operating conditions.
  • Thermal: temperature rise, insulation system retention after temperature cycling, thermal ageing.
  • Environmental: high and low temperature, damp heat, ageing.

Common failure modes

  • Insulation burn-out after a locked rotor.
  • Driver malfunction under electromagnetic interference.
  • Output torque loss from brush wear.
  • Grease performance dropping after temperature cycling, causing noise or sticking.
  • Contact resistance and heating at connectors under high-current conditions.

Selection and test guidance

  • Confirm the rated power and duty cycle; test conditions are set from these.
  • Safety-related parts (steering, braking) must be validated to the applicable functional safety level.
  • Vibration testing of motors has to account for the mounting method — rigid and suspended mounting differ widely.

Service notes

Our laboratory holds both CMA and CNAS accreditation, covers about 10,000 m2 and runs more than 500 sets of equipment. All testing is carried out in our own laboratories — nothing is subcontracted. Plant visits and on-site witnessed testing are welcome.

Scheduling follows the actual project pipeline. You can state your preferred lead time when you submit samples; we will confirm a feasible plan against current capacity and keep you updated at each milestone.

Test Matrix

Test items and typical conditions

Motor drives are power components: their disturbance spectrum is wider than that of an ordinary controller, and they are usually mounted on the chassis or in the engine bay, so mechanical and ingress severity must be taken at the worst-case location.

Test dimension Typical items Common condition ranges Reference standard
Electrical Overvoltage, undervoltage, phase-to-phase short, locked rotor Per the motor rated voltage platform and the customer specification Customer technical agreement
EMC emission Conducted emission, radiated emission Power components need attention across a wide band; frequency range per the standard CISPR 25
EMC immunity Radiated immunity Field strength and bands as the standard specifies ISO 11452
Environmental Temperature cycling, damp heat, ingress protection Chassis parts commonly require IP65 / IP67, per mounting location GB/T 4208
Mechanical Random vibration, mechanical shock, stone impact Chassis and engine bay positions are more severe ISO 16750

Conditions and limits above are typical ranges for reference. The actual test levels, sample quantity and acceptance criteria follow the mutually confirmed test plan and standard version. Source: the clauses of each referenced standard.

Have a testing requirement? Send us your product details

Tell us the product model and test requirements. Our engineers will map out the test plan, the applicable standards and the item combination, and provide a quotation reference. The more specific the request, the sharper the answer.

  • Free scoping of the test plan and standards
  • Pre-scan testing during R&D to cut rework cost
  • On-site visits and witnessed testing supported
  • Scheduling per project, with progress updates at each milestone

Received — we will contact you shortly and follow up with a test plan and quotation.

By submitting you agree to be contacted by phone or email. Scheduling follows the project’s actual availability and is subject to mutual confirmation.
